What is stress

Stress basically refers to the way your body responds to situations that are perceived to be stressful to one’s physical, emotional, mental or spiritual well-being. When you sense a threat, whether imagined or real, your body’s mechanism responds to the situation which leads to a flight or fight response. Your body responds to a stressful situation by releasing chemicals and hormones such as cortisol, adrenaline and norepinephrine. This response is a way of your body protecting you from the stressful situation by preparing it for a physical action. When you find your heart beating fast or your energy is high, it is because of the adrenaline hormone. Cortisol also boosts your energy by triggering glucose release into the bloodstream. This extra energy will help you run away when faced with physical threats.

This can cause you to experience signs and symptoms of stress like headaches, dizziness, high blood pressure, chest pains, fatigue or shortness of breath. In the worst case, stress can lead to increased risk of having a heart attack or stroke. Most of the time, stress can make men feel angry, experience fear, anxiety and distrust, which can destroy their relationship at work or home. That is why men need to learn how to cope with stress successfully.

Get enough sleep

It is not a good thing for you to be stressed out and tired at the same time. If you don’t get enough sleep, you will feel tired which can make you think irrationally and increase your stress levels. According to a study conducted at the University of California Berklee not getting enough sleep because of working or studying late increases your risk of having a full-blown anxiety disorder.
